Health Minister C Lakshma Reddy revealed shocking details in the Telangana Assembly that eight patients had lost their partial visions after "successful" eye surgeries due to contaminated and below par equipment in hospitals.
Responding to a question raised by Congress members S A Sampath Kumar, T Ram Mohan Reddy and G Chinna Reddy during the Question Hour on Tuesday, the Minister said that the cause of the infection that caused blindness was contaminated "Ringer Lactate" solution used in the surgery.
He said that the government lodged a complaint against Yousuf Badar, Managing Director of Messrs Habeeb Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd, Nagpur for violating Sections 18 (a) (1) and 18 (a) (vi), punishable under Section 27 (d) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 in the Court of VI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Nampally.
The case was pending in the Court for trial, he added.
