Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan) was celebrated in both the Telugu States with religious fervor and gaiety on Monday.
Lakhs of devout Muslims, irrespective of their age, thronged the various idgahs, mosques and open spaces wearing white new clothes and participated in the special prayers.
The main congregation was held at Meer Alam Idgah where a large number of Muslims participated in the special prayers. After the prayers, they hugged each other and exchanged greetings, saying "Eid mubarak" to each other. Huge gatherings were also witnessed at Charminar, Macca Masjid, Jama Masjid, Balamrai Idgah and the Secunderabad mosque in Hyderabad, and at Adilabad, Bhainsa, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and other towns in Telangana, with all the devout starting their Eid celebrations early in the morning, and participating in special prayers in the mosques. The imams and other priests who addressed the gatherings exhorted the Muslims to continue good deeds even after the Ramzan month so that they could succeed in life.
The police deployed a huge force in Old City keeping the ISIS threat to Hyderabad and the arrest of ISIS sympathizers recently in mind. The police diverted the traffic in Old City signiicantly for the festival.
In Siddipet, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao extended greetings to the Muslims at local idgah. Speaking on the occasion, Rao said that Eid-ul-Fitr reflected secularism.
