State Higher Education Council Chairman Prof. K C Reddy on Wednesday stated that the counselling for Integrated Common Entrance Test candidates will begin on August 19.
Talking to media persons, Prof. Reddy said that the counselling, which was scheduled to begin on July 19, was postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances.
He said that the going might get tough for ICET students, since more than 1,50,000 students have cleared the qualifying examinations.
The Council Chairman said the counselling for engineering students who had cleared the EAMCET will be held on August 29.
The EAMCET counseling was delayed due to allotment of ranks to candidates and sanction of large number of colleges by AICTE despite the state government sending signals against it.
The officials, who expected less than 10,000 seats to be added this year, were surprised that the AICTE gave the nod for the addition of nearly 30,000 more seats by giving permission to new colleges and increasing the intake in the existing institutions.
