The issue of
Shankar Rao's arrest is snowballing into a major controversy, though the police are trying to hush up the issue, saying that there was no arrest, and that he was only taken into custody for questioning. Meanwhile, there has been a spate of protests and complaints against the government and the police.
The Alwal Police on Thursday had taken former minister Shankar Rao into custody to question him in connection with the Green Field land scam.
On Friday, DGP Dinesh Reddy held a meeting with the officials concerned, and took stock of the situation. Malkajgiri DCP said that he was only taken into custody for questioning in the Green Fields land case.
PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana said that the arrest was "unfortunate".
However, Shankar Rao is a known critic of Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, and wanted to file a case against her son. The matter was swept under the carpet then.
He was also the person who wrote a letter to the High Court to probe into the disproportionate assets case of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, and opened up what is now called the 26 GOs case.
Shankar Rao, known for his outspoken nature and his rather controversial views, was given the ministerial berth, and later dropped. (INN)
