Director General Of Police R R Girish Kumar said that he had requested the centre for an additional 80 companies of paramilitary forces to maintain law and order in the run-up to the by-polls, and to ensure that no untoward incidents take place during and after the voting takes place.
Girish Kumar was talking to media persons after inaugurating a police training academy in Karimnagar.
The DGP appealed to students to cooperate with police to ensure the smooth conduction of the forthcoming by-elections in Telangana region. He warned that the police will take stern action against any person, however powerful they might be, if they are found to breach peace in the state.
He said that the decision to take back cases against pro-Telangana students is in the government's hands, and that he has no right to arbitrarily withdraw any case on anyone.
Girish Kumar emphatically denied that Hyderabad has become the 'epicentre of terrorism'. He said that reports of the city becoming a centre for ISI agents were just rumours.
