The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Wednesday directed the State government and Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao to submit the documents of his appointment and seniority list before the tribunal by November 16th.
The tribunal, while issuing directions in connection to a petition filed by Principal Secretary (Home) P Gautam (IAS) challenging the Aravinda Rao's appointment as DGP, adjourned the case to Nov 16th.
Gautam Kumar had sought the cancellation of Aravinda Rao's appointment since it was in violation of IPS cadre rules.
The petitioner had pleaded that he was sidestepped from the top job by Aravinda Rao, even though he belonged to the 1975 batch of IPS, while the DGP belonged to the 1977 batch.
Gautam Kumar termed Aravinda Rao's promotion as illegal, and hence his appointment as DGP (head of police force) was equally illegal.
The IAS officer urged the tribunal to peruse the records pertaining to the promotion of Aravinda Rao, and consequently declare his promotion as illegal.
