AP Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee general secretary Lateef Mohammed Khan requested the government to announce the release of Muslim youth who were arrested for allegedly being involved in the Mecca Masjid blast case. He said that the victims of false arrests must be paid compensation, and should also be given government jobs.
Addressing media persons, Lateef Khan pointed out that Swami Aseemanand had affirmed the involvement of a Hindu organisation in the bomb blast.
He said that Mohammed Abdur Raheem, Dr. Ibrahim Junaid and Rayees were falsely implicated and tortured in police custody. The civil rights activists demanded an apology from the state government, release of those in custody, and a government job to compensate for the authority's folly.
Earlier on December 16, N Kiran Kumar Reddy had declared that the state government was willing to apologise to the members of the Muslim community if the allegations were proved incorrect.
The CM had said, "Not only would the government apologise to the Muslim youth, it will also extend financial help to those who are found to have been wrongly implicated in blast-related cases."
He also added, "The government is concerned about innocent youth, not only of the Muslim community, but all those who have been deliberately harassed by the police. The government is ready to apologise unconditionally if there is proof of deliberate harassment."
