Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao expressed his displeasure over the pace of work on irrigation projects including the Rs. 425-crore Kumram Bheem reservoir, and directed them to expedite it and ensure supply of water to farmers during the upcoming kharif season in June.
The Minister was told that works on the 24 km left canal were yet to be started, after which he lashed out at the officials and urged them to finish constructing it by June.
He was also told that land acquisition for canals, distributaries and other components in several places were yet to be taken up. Rao directed the officials to expedite the acquisition process under the Central Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and asked them to deposit funds as compensation for lands with courts, if farmers were unwilling to part with their lands.
The Minister also told the district authorities to conduct review meetings every week and report to his Ministry at regularly. He also urged MLAs in the areas in question to proactively convince the farmers to give their lands for the project that would benefit them.
