DCA officers detected an unauthorized stock of a large quantity of steroids for sale at Rakesh Distributors in Koti.
Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, acting on a tip-off claiming illegal sale of steroids to gym-goers, raided unlicensed premises operating under the name Rakesh Distributors, located at Esamiya Bazar in Koti and operated by Rakesh Kanodia, on September 18 & 19.
During the raid, DCA officers detected an unauthorized stock of a large quantity of steroid medicines for sale.
Some 22 varieties of steroids, including androgen and anabolic steroids, were found stocked for sale on the premises, indicating the potential for their abuse by muscle-builders.
The abuse of androgen and anabolic steroids poses significant health risks. These drugs, often misused by bodybuilders to enhance muscle growth, can lead to a range of adverse effects, including cardiovascular issues, liver damage, mood swings and hormonal imbalances. Moreover, long-term abuse can result in severe health complications such as infertility, kidney failure and psychiatric disorders.
DCA officials seized stock worth Rs 2 lakh from Rakesh Kanodia during the raid. V Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal, and P Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam, were among the officers who carried out the raid. The DCA officers picked up some samples for analysis.
