Assuming charge for the 3rd time as Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President at Gandhi Bhavan, D Srinivas on Monday thanked the Congress high command for reposing confidence in him.
Talking to media persons after assuming charge, Srinivas stated, "I am not new to this post and my responsibilities are the same. The problems are not new to me. We will solve all problems based on priority".
Reacting to the demands for the formation of Telangana state, Srinivas hoped that the centre would come out with a concrete decision before the budget session of the Parliament. Srinivas said that the centre would call an all-party meeting before the budget session to evolve a consensus on the controversial issue.
When the reporters asked his personal opinion on the Telangana state issue, he said, "There is no need to tell my personal opinion to you". He also lashed out at the media for focusing on trivial issues with a magnifying glass. He said that a few media houses were creating sensationalism in the name of 'breaking news' to increase the viewer ship of their channels.
When asked about what kind of action the high command was going to initiate on those leaders who participated in the Jal Deeksha of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Srinivas said that a serious action would be taken against them at an appropriate time.
When pointed out the high command's moves to appease Congress leaders from Telangana by offering them ministerial berths, the PCC chief said that the cabinet expansion was the prerogative of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. "You can pose this question to the Prime Minister. I am in no way connected to the union cabinet expansion," he stated.
He said that the congress monitoring committees would look into the execution of government schemes, and ensure that the benefits of the schemes reach the beneficiaries.
MLA Sudhir Reddy, MLCs Indrasena Reddy, Jagadishwar Reddy, Rudraraju Padmaraju, G Rudraraju and Ganga Bhavani, were present in the program.
No Telangana MP, MLA or MLC turned up for the program.
