Cyclone Lehar To Hit AP Coast On November 28

Even as the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh attempt to recover from the disastrous after-effects of Cyclone Helen, the authorities are gearing up to face another cyclonic storm "Lehar", which is likely to make a landfall on the AP coast on November 28.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm "Lehar" remained practically stationary over the Andaman Sea, and lay centred at 8.30am on Sunday, about 230 km east-southeast of south-southeast of Port Blair.
The system will move north-westward and cross the Andaman & Nicobar Islands between Hut Bay and Long Island, close to Port Blair around tonight.
It will then emerge into south-east Bay of Bengal, gradually intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm.
Then, it will move west-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machillipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada around 28th November noon.
Meanwhile, rain occurred at many places over Telangana, a few places in the south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and isolated rain was seen in Rayalaseema, due to the impact of cyclone Helen.
Mainly dry weather prevailed over north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The highest rainfall of 12 cm was recored in Narayan Khed of Medak district, followed by Mangalarigi (6), Vikarabad (5), Pargi (4) and 3 cm of rainfall was recorded each in Tenali, Sangareddi and Mednoor. (INN)
