Minister for municipal administration Anam Ramnarayan Reddy on Wednesday revealed that the damage in Nellore district due to incessant rains and the cyclonic storm Jal was estimated to be Rs. 103 crore.
He added that he had submitted a report to chief minister K Rosaiah about the extent of losses suffered in the district.
The minister said that 41 rehabilitation centres were set up in 14 mandals, and that 13,600 people were sheltered and sent back after proper attention. He said that fishermen also had lost their fishing boats and nets in the storm.
The district administration set up 62 more rehabilitation centres, where children were supplied with water and milk. Food and water was also given to the flood victims. Apart from this, essential commodities were supplied to the people, the minister said.
The crop loss was not much, but crops were damaged considerably and the CM has ordered the agriculture department to make arrangements for supply of seeds to the farmers, he said.
The heavy rains battered the roads and damaged the infrastructure mostly in all mandals. Roads and buildings, communication network were damaged in the district, he said.
Anam said that the infrastructure in the district was damaged, and the repairs to roads and partially-damaged buildings were to be undertaken. Besides, there was damage to electric poles and wires, and the administration is supplying power using generators, he said.
District collectors were instructed to conduct further surveys, and their report is expected in a few days.
