The Cyberabad police have decided to to form sector-wise "confidence building committees" to stop the exodus of people from Assam and the other North East states from the city.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate on Tuesday. Commissioner Ch D Tirumala Rao, who chaired the meeting, said that the safety and security of the people of the North East would be taken care of.
The meeting was also attended by Assam principal secretary Bhasker, Assam's DIG Vijay Kumar Ramisetty, NE Forum secretary Rev. Paothang Haokip, Assam Association president S K Modi, KIMS vice chairman Dr. S Sahariah and other senior officials.
According to the commissioner, confidence building committees will be formed in various industry segments and walks of life - including the IT sector, security agencies, students, hospitality, construction workers, nursing and banks. The committees will consist of local persons, local public representatives and prominent leaders from both Hindu and Muslim communities, with the members of the Assam Association.
At the meeting, it was also decided to appeal to persons who left Hyderabad for Assam to come back and pursue their jobs and studies without any fear.
"Publicity must be sustained from the government's side, by narrating steps taken by the state government. Police helpline numbers also should be known to all the people of Assam and North Eastern states. The committees must be in touch with Railway authorities. Pickets and patrolling are being continued in the areas where Assamese are residing in large numbers," the Commissioner said. (INN)
