Basic Necessities Hit In Curfew Areas
Although curfew was relaxed, the plight of the local residents in getting their daily bread remained at its worst, and 2 patients lost their lives.
Hyderabad | 3rd April 2010
Taking a cue from the incident-free positive response to Friday's curfew relaxation, the curfew was relaxed again on Saturday in around 17 police
stations within the old city from 10am to 1pm and in 8 police stations outside of Old City from 8am to 10am. Even today, no communal violence was
reported.
All was not well, though. Although violence was curbed, the plight of the local residents in getting their daily bread remained at its worst. Faced with skyrocketing prices for basic needs like vegetables, ration & milk, low wage citizens had nowhere to turn to for alternate sources. Many of them were stranded and continued to stay in queues even past the curfew time in a bid to buy what they could afford.
The curfew also claimed the lives of two people, as timely medical treatment for their cardiac arrest was not reached. Kedarinath (28), a resident of Kumarwaadi near Chandrayangutta, was pronounced dead by the time the ambulance carrying him and maneuvering through the severly secured areas reached the hospital. Another victim, Manjula Bai (55) of Shibligunj near Hussaaini Alam, devoloped complications and lost her life as her relatives made unfruitful frantic efforts to acquire medicines.
The BJP, accusing the Congress-led government of being lackadaisical in controlling the situation, constituted a 5-member party panel to
probe into the communal riots that rocked Hyderabad. Headed by BJP Andhra Pradesh in-charge Prakash Javadekar, the panel comprises of BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP National Secretary Lakshman, Prahlad Joshi and K B Shanappa, and will submit its report to the BJP president Nitin Gadkari.
With peace continuing for the last two days, the authorities are considering relaxing the curfew on Sunday for longer hours.
