Sleuths of Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills police stations on Tuesday nabbed 2 cricket bookies who were accepting bets on cricket matches.
Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended Pravin Kumar and K Suri Babu and seized Rs. 99,500 in cash, 2 colour TVs, 2 laptops and 17 mobile phones from them.
Praveen Kumar Raju was arrested while he was accepting cricket bets in a rented room at Gayathri Hills, using the premises as a gaming house. During the raid, the police seized Rs. 59,000, a colour TV, a laptop and 10 mobile phones from him.
Praveen Kumar is a native of Bhimavaram, West Godavari district, and a habitual offender involved in cricket betting. He had been organising cricket betting since the last 2 IPL seasons by having a community of his own punters.
In a separate raid, the Banjara Hills police, tipped off by the Jubilee Hills police, nabbed another bookie named Kommireddy Suri Babu while he was accepting cricket bets in a room taken on rent in Guru Brahma Nagar, Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. The police seized Rs. 40,500, a colour TV, a laptop and 7 mobile phones from him.
