The Communist Party of India (Marxist) warned the state government of tough times if 80% of the budget was not allocated to public welfare schemes.
Addressing the gathering at a state-level meeting organized by the party, CPM State Secretary B V Raghavulu said that his party would launch a direct fight against the government if it failed to allocate a lion's share of funds for peoples' welfare.
The CPM leader demanded that the government should allot funds which provide direct employment and benefit to the poor and backward people.
Farm leaders, student union leaders and various labour union leaders from across the state attended the meeting.
