The Prime Minister spoke at the BC Atma Gaurava Sabha organised by the BJP at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the main feature and chief guest at the BC Atma Gaurava Sabha organised by the BJP at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad today, surprised the audiences by speaking for a bit in Telugu.
The PM started by paying respects to Sammakka-Saralamma and Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. He then proceeded to make a speech pandering to the BCs. (Modi himself belongs to the OBCs.)
"It was with your blessings that I became the Prime Minister. With your blessings, a BJP BC person will soon become the CM. The BJP leaders and workers who came to this meeting feel like they are in the midst of family members," he said.
He then proceeded to attack the BRS. "People from all walks of life in Telangana want a change. For the last nine years, an anti-BC, anti-SC and anti-ST person has been in power. The Telangana movement was born for water, funds and jobs, and many died for a separate State. However, the BRS government has cheated the people on all three fronts. The BCs of the State have been especially cheated. The KCR government never paid any heed to their aspirations. In this order, the BRS is the Congress' C team," he said.
He added that DNA of both the BRS and the Congress was the same, with corruption, family rule and appeasement politics being the characteristics of both the parties.
Modi claimed that the BJP was the only party which cared about the aspirations of the BCs. "There are 27 BC ministers in the union cabinet, and more than 85 BC MPs in Parliament. And it is the BJP that made Abdul Kalam, dalit Ram Nath Kovind and tribal woman Draupadi Murmu as Presidents. It was also the BJP that made me, an OBC, the Prime Minister. The BRS is not doing anything for the BC," he said.
Modi also alleged that there was no real development in Telangana, and corruption and irregulaties were the norm. "Irregularities in all recruitment exams have become common, and top BRS leaders have links in the sensational Delhi liquor scam. There is arrogance among the BRS leaders, and this corrupt government should be sent home. I am confident that the BRS will lose power in the upcoming Assembly elections, and that there will be a double engine government in Telangana. And we will not spare any of the wrongdoers," he said.
The Prime Minister also threw in freebies. "If voted to power, we will provide free ration rice to the poor for five years. This is Modi's guarantee," he said.
