Corey Ian Haim, a Canadian actor who starred in Lucas, Murphy's Romance, The Lost Boys, License to Drive and Dream A Little Dream, among other films, died on March 10 at 2:15am in California.
According to police Sgt. William Mann, Haim "had flulike symptoms before he died and was getting over-the-counter and prescription medications". Mann also said "he could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs."
Haim was born in Toronto on 23 December 1971. At the age of 10 he began working in television commercials. aLater, he first played Larry in the Canadian family sit com The Edison Twins, which ran from 1982 to 1986. His first film was Firstborn (1984), alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. He won the Young Artist Award for the television movie A Time to Live.
He had his major break as a lead of Lucas (1986), alongside Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen, and Winona Ryder. His career peaked with Lucas and The Lost Boys (1987). He then moved on to the 1987 television series Roomies. The film License To Drive got him his second Young Artist Award.
He starred in direct-to-video films, and in a video game released for the Sega CD. He also went into film production.
Haim was also known to have been struggling with drug abuse, and went into rehab. In 1997, he filed for bankruptcy, listing debts for medical expenses and more than $200,000 in state and federal taxes.
