The Hyderabad task force police on Monday seized Rs 8 crore in cash belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party, during a vehicle-checking drive at Narayanaguda.
They also apprehended seven people who were transporting the cash in cars.
The police said that the huge sum of money was drawn from an Indian bank branch.
The police initially seized Rs 2 crore being transported in a car by one Prateek Reddy. Upon interrogation, Reddy revealed the names of six others who were transporting another Rs 6 crore, and who were also apprehended.
The accused told the police that they had withdrawn the cash from the BJP account, and that it was an official transaction, with the money needed for legal party expenses. The bank officials too reportedly told the police that they had given the money after receiving a cheque from Dr. Laxman, the President of the Telangana unit of the BJP.
