TPCC senior vice-president G Niranjan today said that it was unfortunate that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had resorted to cheap politics by not attending a spiritual congregation arranged for the inauguration of the "Statue of Equality" of Sri Ramanujacharya for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself flow down to the city.
"KCR lowered dignity of the Telangana people by not attending this non-political, purely spiritual event," Niranajan said.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, Niranjan said that the entire world had witnessed the gala spiritual event, and was stunned at the absence of the Chief Minister of the state where it was happening.
"It is an unpardonable mistake on the part of KCR. The incident has proved his narrow-minded politics and his disrespect towards social and spiritual values. It also shows how his tall pronouncements are all false. Whether one is happy or not with the Prime Minister, this was not the occasion to express dissatisfaction, and this is not our Telangana culture," he said.
"Also, a day before the program, the comments of minister K T Rama Rao about the event were intended to degrade Saint Ramanujacharya Swamy. It seems that other ministers too did not have the courtesy to respect the sanctity of the event, and lined up tweets to denigrate and sideline the holy event. Will they not get any other opportunity to criticize Narendra Modi?" Niranjan asked.
Though the state government departments had contributed to the success of the event, the absence of KCR had nullified the effect, Niranjan lamented.
