The state government, on Wednesday, admitted that it has reduced the quantity of kerosene and sugar being given on each ration card, in rural and urban areas in Andhra Pradesh.
Replying to a question raised by TRS MLA T Harish Rao and others during Question Hour in the state Legislative Assembly, Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu said that the government has revised the scale of distribution of kerosene oil in order to make available PDS kerosene oil to all BPL cardholders with LPG and non-LPG connections in the entire state.
This was done in view of the requirement of existing ration cards and inadequate PDS kerosene oil, and the allocation being made by the Government of India.
Similarly, keeping in view the requirement of sugar for the existing ration cards and inadequate allotment by the Centre, it was ordered to adopt a uniform scale of half kilogram sugar in both urban and urban areas of AP, the minister said.
This was done to ensure that sugar is distributed to each BPL cardholder every month under PDS, he added.
The minister said that 4 litres of kerosene are being given to non-LPG cardholders in municipal corporations, and 2 litres in municipalities/mandal headquarters and rural areas.
For those with Deepam and BPL cards, just one litre of kerosene is being supplied, he said. (INN)
