Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, on Sunday, reiterated his demand that the Congress tender an apology for the mistakes committed by former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
Talking to reporters at his residence, Hanumantha Rao said that the Congress' failure to admit YSR's mistakes helped the YSR Congress project him as a leader bigger than the ruling party.
He said that besides apologising for YSR's mistakes, the state government must also return the land acquired from the poor and farmers, for various projects in the state.
Regarding the
results of the by-polls, he said that the Congress' candidates lost the elections since they did not get the support they needed, from the party leaders.
Further, the party had failed to take up an effective campaign to highlight the various schemes being implemented for the welfare of different sections of the society, he averred.
VH said that the YSR Congress won the by-elections only due to the sympathy wave created by the CBI's arrest of Jagan. He asserted that such waves do not last long, and that the party would not be able to sustain its victory in the future.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that the Congress must analyse the reasons for its failure. He demanded that all nominated posts be filled immediately, and the services of sincere workers be recognised.
He said that the party would not be able to win the 2014 elections unless it re-establishes its bond with the people.
Congress leaders must reach out to the masses to know about their problems and solve them on immediate basis, he opined.
With regard to the Parkal seat, he said that YSRC candidate Konda Surekha had enjoyed the secret backing of the BJP, and that that was the reason why she won enough votes to even be a runner-up in the by-elections. (INN)
