Congress MLC M S Prabhakar on Wednesday condemned the demolition of buildings belonging to the Ayyapa Society, on the Gurukul Ghatkesar lands in Serilingampally.
Speaking to media persons in the Telangana Legislative Council's premises in Hyderabad, Prabhakar said that the Congress party was not defending the illegal constructions. However, since most of the occupants of the Ayyappa Society hailed from the Seemandhra region, the demolition would send a wrong message among the people of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
He said that action should be initiated against the GHMC officials who had not taken any measures while the illegal construction was in progress.
Prabhakar said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao should make the GHMC officials accountable for the prevention of illegal constructions. However, in cases where the buildings had already been constructed, the government should consider regularising such structures by levying heavy penalties.
He said that such a move would fetch revenue for the government while the retail buyers of such properties could save their hard-earned money. (INN)
