Deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, on Saturday, said that the Congress'
defeat in the by-elections was due to its own mistakes.
Talking to media persons, Damodar Rajanarasimha said that the party was defeated in most of constituencies contested because of its mistakes, including the delay in the selection of party candidates, and ineffective tackling of YSR Congress honorary president Y S Vijayamma and her daughter Sharmila.
He said that the sympathy wave over Jagan's arrest by the CBI did not work out in Godavari districts, as the Congress was able to win Ramachandrapuram and Narsapuram assembly seats, which are considered strong bastions of the YSR Congress.
"Had the Congress worked out a better strategy at least 3 months before the by-elections, the results would have been different," Rajanarasimha said.
The deficits in the Congress have become assets for some other parties, he said, and added that the party would rectify its mistakes and revamp the party cadre to face the 2014 general elections better. (INN)
