BRS working president K T Rama Rao today alleged that a total of Rs 80,500 crore had been borrowed by the State government from the day Revanth Reddy assumed charge as the Chief Minister of Telangana.
"The Revanth Reddy government, which takes loans of Rs 5,000-6,000 crore every month, has so far borrowed Rs 49,618 crore from the RBI alone. It has raised another Rs 25,000 crore of loans through guarantees provided to corporations and autonomous bodies," KTR said in a tweet, and sought to know where the money was going.
"During the BRS regime, projects were constructed by taking loans, and the infrastructure increased with every penny, decades of hardships of the people being solved using the loans taken. However, despite the record debt by the current government, no election promise had been fulfilled and no new irrigation project had been constructed," he said.
"So where is the debt that the Chief Minister is taking, going? Into whose pockets did the Rs 80,000 crore go? Is the CM borrowing just to pay the bills of big contractors? Or is he taking on debt just for commissions?" he asked.
