Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao explain the sources of funding for Pragathi Nivedana Sabha, the public meeting that the TRS proposes to hold on September 2.
"The TRS will be spending more than Rs. 300 crores on the proposed public meeting. The Chief Minister must disclose from where the TRS is mobilising these funds," he demanded.
He alleging that the entire money was from the "ill-gotten wealth that the KCR family accumulated during the last four years through commissions from contractors of different projects".
"Whatever money is being spent now by the TRS is actually public money which has been stolen from the exchequer through dubious means," the TPCC chief said.
Reddy urged the Income Tax department and other authorities to track the spending as well as trace the origin of the funds.
"This is pure black money which is being spent by the TRS. The IT authorities should prepare a detailed log of the money being spent by the TRS for the venue, transportation, food and other expenses. The actual figure of spending will be mind-boggling," he said.
He also accused the Chief Minister of misusing the official government machinery for his party's public meeting.
"All the RTC buses have been blocked for the event, which will cause huge inconvenience to the common people. Even the Telangana State Public Service Commission exams are being postponed in view of the meeting. The TRS did nothing for the people during the last four years, and before making a final exit from power, is causing huge inconvenience to them," he claimed.
Reddy said that KCR was organising the public meeting to create a false impression about his performance as the TRS government had not fulfilled a single major electoral promise, and was fearing a severe backlash from the people. He said that no tactic or stunt would however work in favour of the TRS as the people had decided to bring the Congress into power in the next elections. He quipped that it would be appropriate if the TRS public meeting was named "Praja Avedana Sabha" instead of "Pragathi Nivedana Sabha".
