Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) with immediate effect.
In a release on Friday, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K C Venugopal informed the appointment of Goud, and also appreciated the contribution of the outgoing PCC president Revanth Reddy.
Many leaders lobbied hard for the post of TPCC president, including Mahabubabad MP Balram Naik, TPCC Campaign Committee Chairman Madhu Yaskhi Goud and Government Whip Adluri Laxman Kumar, but the party leadership has favoured MLC Goud due primarily to caste equations (he is a BC leader, and with Bhatti Vikramarka, an SC leader, being made Deputy CM, a BC leader in a top position became inevitable).
Revanth Reddy's tenure as PCC president ended on July 7, and the selection process for the new president has been going on from since before then.
