Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday lambasted the ruling Congress government by alleging that it was using force to quell the democratic rights of the people and suppress the voice of the opposition.
Talking to media persons at the Osmania General Hospital after visiting his party workers undergoing treatment for the injuries they suffered during the lathi-charge at the Andhra-Maharashtra border on Tuesday, Naidu criticized the government for trying to suppress the people of the state while adopting a 'soft' approach towards the government of Maharashtra.
He revealed that Karimnagar corporator O Ramesh, corporator and town president Ashok, ST Cell president G Sudhakar, BC Cell president Raj Kumar and vice president K Krishna were admitted to the hospital after being injured in the lathi-charge. The TDP leaders were protesting against the treatment meted out to Naidu and his team members at the hands of the Maharashtra police while trying to shift them from Dharmabad ITI to Aurangabad.
Naidu also visited the Apollo Hospital at Jubilee Hills where he inquired about the health of former MP Ramakrishna Reddy.
The TDP chief thundered that his party activists or were not ordinary workers, and that they are activists who listen to, and solve the problems of, lakhs of people across the state.
Naidu sought to remind the government that the TDP is not a local party, but a party which has been existing since the last 18 years and fighting for the welfare of the people.
He charged that the police deliberately injured the TDP party workers under the instructions of the Congress government. He said that the lathi-charge was illegal and inhuman.
The former chief minister added that his party members were earlier admitted to the Karimnagar district civil hospital but were shifted to the Osmania General Hospital at 3am on Friday morning under the supervision of Health Minister Danam Nagender.
Naidu was accompanied by TDP leaders Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Muzzafar Ali Khan, Mohammed Atiq, Zuber Amodi and TDP PRO Salam, during his visit to the hospital.
