The Telangana government is gearing up to distribute clothes and gift packs to 4 lakh poor Muslims in the state on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which falls on June 16, at the end of the month of Ramzan.
Advisor to the Government on Minority Welfare, retired IPS officer A K Khan, issued instructions to officials in this regard at a review meeting held with them on Wednesday.
He wanted the officials to procure the clothes from the state weavers' cooperative societies, and the gift packs, by May 20. He asked the officials to then have the gift packs distributed in 800 masjids.
Khan stated on the occasion that the state government had allocated Rs. 2,000 crores for minority welfare in the budget for the current year, and Rs. 496.77 crores had already been released out of this amount. He added that Rs. 100 crores had been provided in the budget towards overseas study scheme for minorities.
