On January 19, booth level immunization will be held while house-to-house activity for children missing on the booth day will be held on January 20, 21 and 22.
As per the guidelines of the central and state governments, the Hyderabad District administration will conduct the 1st round of the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme on January 19.
This is the 19th year of conducting Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme. In 2008 one case of wild Polio virus was reported in Elli Mogga hamlet of Kakinanda, East Godavari District.
Since 2009 no case of Polio has been reported in Andhra Pradesh.
During the last year’s National Immunization Day programme held on February 24, 2013, a total of 6,19,943 children were immunized.
On January 19, booth level immunization will be held while house-to-house activity for children missing on the booth day will be held on January 20, 21 and 22.
Of 47.49 lakh population in the Hyderabad district, about 6,56,454 are expected to be in the age group of 0-5 yrs (including newborn children) and they would be immunized with oral Polio vaccine during this programme. As many as 9,13,293 houses would be covered by the teams.
A total of 3032 booths will be established and 85 mobile teams have been arranged in Hyderabad city.
Pulse Polio drops would be administered from 7.00am to 6.00pm at all booths.
All the polling stations of the previous elections have been identified as Polio booths and of the slums (792 notified and 209 un-notified), 1001 have been identified as high risk areas and one Polio booth is arranged in each slum.
As many as 85 mobile teams will be administering Polio drops to all the children at construction sites, nomads, beggar community, temporary settlements, markets, temples, churches, guru dwaras mosques, marriage halls, Exhibition Grounds, public parks like Lumbini, NTR Gardens and Zoopark.
The Polio booths will be arranged at all the transit points i. e., railway stations and bus stations which will be working round the clock, starting from the midnight of January 18 to the evening of January 21.
Personnel from government departments, NGOs, degree college students, NCC, nursing and medical students, staff of SHO cantonment, ASHA, Anganwadi workers, Mahila Mandals, Preraks and others will also be involved in this task.
Pediatric clinics, private nursing homes, corporate hospitals are also participating in this programme.
A total of 14 SPHOs from DM & HO Office are being deployed to monitor the programme of 85 UPHCs.
Publicity is being given through 3,450 banners, 100 cassettes and message are being sent via electronic media and SMSes. Also publicity through hydrogen balloon is also being given in some areas. (INN)
