The much awaited and controversy-prone IPL Governing Council meet was held today in Mumbai. The meeting reached a consensus after a 2-hour deliberation, and resulted in Chirayu Amin being elected as the interim IPL Commisioner.
Amin, vice president of BCCI and head of Baroda Cricket Association, is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Alembic Pharmaceuticals. He was elected today as the IPL Commissioner after the Board suspended former chief Lalit Modi on Sunday night.
Shashank Manohar, BCCI president, said that several crucial IPL documents were missing. He said that considering all the pending enquiries against Modi, he had to be suspended. However, he also said that if Modi presents his case satisfactorily, all allegations against him will be dropped.
Apart from accusing Modi of working unethically, Manohar said that Modi breached the critical clause of confidentiality, thereby defying core BCCI's objectives, and therefore forcing his suspension. This suspension will also ensure Modi a fair trail, Manohar continued.
Meanwhile, plans for IPL Season 4 have already begun. Ravi Sastri, Pataudi and Gavaskar were chosen to decide the functioning of IPL-4, along with the task of getting in touch with the franchises. Also, another Governing Council meet is scheduled in June.
