The students of Sri Venkateshwara Veterinary University (SVVU) in Tirupati came up with a novel idea of expressing their distress of being ignored by their elected representative - they have put up "Missing" posters of thier MLA all over the constituency.
Posters of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) President Chiranjeevi, with his hands folded in a namaste, grace all the important centres in the town. The students are also distributing leaflets that state that MLA Chiranjeevi is missing, and that those who locate him would be suitably rewarded.
The students also lodged a police complaint in the Tirupati Police Station, and the police informed the media that a case has been registered.
The veterinary students resorted to this step after none of the 4 PRP representatives, appointed by Chiranjeevi to address the people's grievances, responded to their 10-day dharna demanding that GO 91 be banned.
They lament that the GO, which promotes the zone-wise appointment of veterinary surgeons, allegedly discriminates against them, and that only students belonging to zones V and VI stand to benefit from it.
Mixed responses are being voiced by PRP members. While a PRP representative in Tirupati supported the case registered by the SVVU students, yet another member of the party stated that the students' protest was nothing more than an attempt to defame Chiranjeevi.
The residents of Tirupati allege that the PRP office is always locked, and that Chiranjeevi himself is never accessible. According to sources, when in Tirupati, Chiranjeevi addresses the media from the residence of one of his party members, visits a couple of wards at a hospital and flies away.
