Union Minister K Chiranjeevi on Saturday called on Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, requesting her to grant Union Territory status to Hyderabad in case of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons after meeting Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, Chiranjeevi said that he had briefed the Congress president about the advantages of making Hyderabad a Union Territory.
He said that the change in the status of Hyderabad would address the concerns of Seemandhra people living in the city.
He also said that he had requested her that Bhadrachalam division be merged with the residual state of Andhra Pradesh. He said that as per records, Bhadrachalam is part of Seemandhra, and rgar the same status should be continued after the bifurcation of the state.
Chiranjeevi also dismissed the proposal of a Rayala Telangana, and said that the idea does not excite people of either of the two regions of Rayalaseema or Telangana. He said that the formation of Rayala Telangana by splitting Rayalaseema region is not practical.
Reacting to the demand of APNGOs union president Ashok Babu seeking his resignation, Chiranjeevi said that first, Ashok Babu must quit his own job before seeking the resignation of other people. (INN)
