Tollywood actor and politician Chiranjeevi on Tuesday met and congratulated veteran filmmaker K Viswanath for being selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country's highest award in cinema, for 2016.
It may be mentioned here that Chiranjeevi had worked with Viswanath in three Telugu films - Subhalekha, Swayam Krushi and Apadbandhavudu. For his performance in Subhalekha, which raised pertinent questions about the dowry system, Chiranjeevi even won the Filmfare award for Best Actor.
"Chiranjeevi sir was very happy when he learnt about this rare honour to Viswanath. He met him today and congratulated him. They spent close to an hour talking," a source close to Chiranjeevi said.
Several other prominent persons from the Telugu film industry, and politicians including Telangana BJP leader G Kishan Reddy, also congratulated Viswanath on bagging the coveted award.
