Seeking bountiful rainfall across the state, priests from the Chilkur Balaji temple performed a "Varuna Japam" in the Osman Sagar on Thursday.
The japam (chanting), comprising rituals and vedic chants, was aimed at drawing good showers, and lasted around two hours. More than 10 pandits performed the japam by standing in the water.
Chief priest of Chilkur Balaji temple Soundararajan said that due to the state receiving lesser rainfall than expected so far this monsoon, the temple priests had offered prayers to Lord Varuna, the rain god. He said that they had complete faith in the Lord, and that he would shower Telangana with abundant rainfall this season.
