The mortal remains of slain Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar, better known as Azad, were consigned to flames at the Punjagutta crematorium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The slain Maoist's body was brought to the crematorium from his brother C Suresh's residence at Doctors Colony in Madhapur.
Suresh, revolutionary poet Varavara Rao, balladeer Gaddar, Kalyan Rao and Manda Krishna Madiga lit the pyre.
Balladeer Gaddar sang revolutionary songs at the cremation grounds and hailed Azad for 'sacrificing his life for the poor and downtrodden'.
A large number of civil liberties activists, supporters and relatives were present at the cremation. Among those present included Chalasani Prasad, Progressive Woman's Organisation leader Sandhya, film producer and director Narayanamurti, senior journalist Venu, poets, artists and writers.
Azad was shot dead in an encounter with the police at Jogapur, Vankhidi mandal in Adilabad on Friday.
