Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy on Monday assured the weeping widow of Hemachander Pandey that an inquiry would be conducted to arrive at the truth behind her husband's death.
Hemachander Pandey was killed in the
encounter along with Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad in an encounter in Adilabad on Friday.
Pandey's widow, Bhavita, called on the Home Minister at her residence and pleaded that her husband was a journalist from Uttarkhand, and sought action against his 'killers'. She submitted a memorandum to Sabita, which stated that it was important that Pandey's name should be cleared.
Bhavita further said that Pandey was caught by the police in Nagpur and brought to Adilabad before being shot down in a 'stage-managed' encounter.
She asserted that Pandey was not a Maoist but a scribe.
The Home Minister told Bhavita that the Maoists had themselves released a press release which stated that Pandey was a Maoist.
She denied that the encounter was fake, and said that an inquiry would be conducted to clarify any doubts about the sequence of events.
