Stating that investigation into the sensational drug-peddling in the Hyderabad was going on expeditiously, Telangana Excise & Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal said that the chargesheet in the case would be filed in the court by the end of December of this year.
Sabharwal, who is heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the drug racket busted recently in the city, said that he was consulting officials of the Narcotic Control Bureau and legal experts and collecting the needed evidence.
Stating that the SIT had arrested 22 people in 11 cases, he said that the examination of the prosecution's witnesses was still going on, and that they were also awaiting reports from the forensic lab. He added that the department had the full support of the state government in the case.
Sabharwal said that he could not say whether the cine elite were witnesses or accused at this juncture, and also clarified that they were dealing with the Tollywood artists strictly as per the law.
He said that his department was explaining to the people the ill-effects of drugs, and that educational institutions were responding to awareness programs well.
