Union Minister of State for Home Afairs G Kishan Reddy today said that the BJP-led Centre was moving towards a target of producing 250 crore Covid-19 vaccines by the end of December this year, and the Centre was holding discussions with 16 pharma companies regarding the production of the vaccines.
He announced this after launching a special vaccination drive for high-risk groups at Seetaphalmandi.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the Centre would focus on administering the Covid-19 vaccine to all the people of Telangana before the end of the year. He mentioned that while the Telangana government had bought only 4 lakh vaccines so far, the union government had given the state 75 lakh vaccines so far.
Reddy also countered a statement made by Telangana's Finance Minister T Harish Rao, and alleged that Rao was making statements about the vaccines "without any knowledge" of the matter.
Meanwhile, in another part of the city, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar launched a similar vaccination drive for high-risk groups.
Kumar visited an old age home Bansilalpet and flagged off a fleet of 24 mobile medical units that will, starting today, vaccinate the elderly and the disabled staying in the various old age and care institutions across the GHMC area. Each mobile unit comprises a doctor, a pharmacist and nursing personnel.
