Census 2027 To Start On May 11 In Telangana

Telangana CS K Ramakrishna Rao said that the first House Listing Operations for the Census of Indian 2027 would begin on May 11 across the State.
Hyderabad | 3rd March 2026
Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao today said that the first House Listing Operations (HLOs) for the Census of Indian 2027 would begin on May 11 across Telangana.

For the first time, the entire exercise would be conducted through a dedicated mobile application for field data collection, ensuring real-time data capture, enhanced accuracy, transparency and faster processing, he said.

Accompanied by Telangana Director of Census Operations Bharathi Holikeri, Rao chaired a high-level meeting with district Collectors to review the modalities and preparedness for the upcoming census enumeration process in the State. The meeting focused on the first phase of operations scheduled to commence on May 11.

The Chief Secretary said that as part of the digital initiative, self-enumeration would begin 15 days prior to the HLO, allowing citizens to voluntarily submit their details online through the designated platform.

Stressing comprehensive coverage, he directed the Collectors to ensure that no household, remote habitation, tribal hamlet or urban slum was left out. He called for special focus on inaccessible and vulnerable areas to guarantee complete and inclusive enumeration.

Speaking about the importance of capacity building, the Chief Secretary said that structured and high-quality training for enumerators and supervisors was important. The success of a fully digital census, he said, depended on the technological proficiency and preparedness of field-level staff.

He also stressed on strict adherence to timelines, maintenance of data quality standards, operational transparency and seamless technological integration. The Collectors were instructed to closely monitor preparatory work and proactively resolve logistical or operational bottlenecks.

Holikeri presented a detailed overview of the operational framework, explaining the structured training cascade model from the State level to field functionaries. She also elaborated on the integration of mobile-based applications and backend monitoring systems to ensure secure and smooth data collection.

She also briefed the officials on preparatory activities, including the finalisation of enumeration blocks, verification of jurisdictional boundaries, device readiness and coordination with local authorities.
