The
15th decennial Census of India officially began in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, with the details of E S L Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, being recorded by officials this morning.
The census will be held in two phases. The first phase, begins today and ends on 10 June. This phase consists of a listing of all houses and its members, within the state. The second phase (called Population Enumeration Phase), between the 9th and the 28th of February 2011, will carry out the count of every individual without omission or duplication in the records.
According to the Director of Census Operations of Andhra Pradesh, Y V Anuradha, 1.6 lakh enumerators and 26,000 supervisors have been appointed to carry out the census in 27,800 villages and 228 towns.
The governor said the exercise would provide a clear categorization of educational and job profiles of people within the state. He said it would also help identify those above and below the poverty line so that schemes aimed for the BPL can be implemented more efficiently and that the facilities that are being made available by the government of Andhra Pradesh are being utilized by those intended.
The governor also urged everyone to prove genuine information, as part of their duties as citizens of the country.
