The Central Bureau of Investigation was on Tuesday given 10-day police custody of Lokesh Sharma, one of the accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast case.
The CBI will get Sharma in its custody on July 9.
The court gave permission to the CBI to interrogate Sharma in connection with the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast, based on a petition filed by the premier investigating body filed on Monday.
The CBI petition, seeking Sharma's custody for 15 days, was filed after a Test Identification Parade.
The CBI petition had said that it believes that the interrogation of Sharma can help the investigators know the truth in the case which jolted not only the Muslim community but also the entire nation. The court rejected the petition for a 15-day custody, but said the CBI can have the opportunity to question Sharma for a 10-day period.
The co-accused in the case, Devender Gupta, is already under CBI custody till June 30. The 2 are under judicial remand.
The accused were brought to Hyderabad from Ajmer on June 17 to investigate their role in the bomb attack which left 9 worshippers dead on that fateful Friday, while 5 others were killed in police firing on protestors who gathered outside the Mecca Masjid.
A case, under various sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, was registered on 9 June 2007 against unidentified persons.
The CBI has so far named 5 persons as accused in the case, including Sharma and Gupta.
