Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today said that the first movement of social justice happened during the tenures of Nehru and Indira Gandhi, with initiatives such as reservations for SC and ST communities and the nationalization of banks; the second happened under Rajiv Gandhi's leadership, with the extension of voting rights to 18-year-olds and the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations; and the third movement commenced with the launch of the caste census under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
It was in line with the third movement that the Telangana government had initiated comprehensive social, economic and caste surveys, he said.
The Chief Minister made these remarks during the Samvidhan Raksha Abhiyan meeting, organized by the Congress at Delhi's Talkatora Stadium on Constitution Day.
"About 92% of the survey has already been completed in Telangana. After the survey our State government will lead the charge in advancing the third great movement for social justice, and 'Jitni Bhagi Dari, Utni Hisse Dari' will be implemented without compromise," he claimed.
Speaking of the Constitution Day, the CM commended Rahul Gandhi for launching a nationwide movement to protect the Constitution. He said that the Constitution had come under serious threat over the past decade, due to the depradations of the BJP-led Union government. He said that the battle was however not Gandhi's alone, and called on all the citizens to join the fight to safeguard the Constitution.
"We must remember that this is a fight between the protectors of the Constitution and its adversaries. While the Gandhi family is committed to defending the Constitution, the Modi family (Sangh family) seeks to alter it," he alleged.
"The people of the country are increasingly uniting behind Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. Modi sought 400 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections, but the people limited his victory to just 240 seats, rallying behind Gandhi's movement. The looming decline of Modi is evident from the results of the Wayanad and the Nanded Lok Sabha by-elections," he added.
