Case On Chalapathi Rao For "Women For Bed" Comment
A criminal case was registered against the senior actor following complaints by several women over comments at the pre-release event of Raarandoi Veduka Chuddam.
The Jubilee Hills police on Tuesday registered a criminal case against senior character actor Chalapathi Rao following complaints by several women after he allegedly made derogatory comments against women at the pre-release event of Raarandoi Veduka Chuddam.
The actor's comments have gone viral on social media and he is a facing severe backlash for his foot-in-the-mouth utterances.
"Ammayilu haanikaram kadu kani, pakkaloki paniki vastharu (girls are injurious to health, but they are useful in the bed)," Rao reportedly said.
The film's tagline "ammayilu aarogyaaniki haanikaramaa" (are girls injurious to health?) has become popular, and when Rao was asked for his opinion on it by the anchor (who was asking the same question of a variety of celebs at the event), he made the statement.
Rao's abominable comments took everyone by surprise. Annoyed over his atrocious observation that many felt insulted women, an editor Kondaveeti Satyavathi and social activist Devi went to the Jubilee Hills police station and filed a complaint against him with circle inspector Venkat Reddy.
The heroine of the film Rakul Preet Singh, hero Akkineni Naga Chaitanya and film producer Akkineni Nagarjuna condemned the comments of the actor.
Singh said that it was not proper for Rao, an elderly person, to speak atrociously lowering the dignity of women.
Nagarjuna, who is producing the film under his home banner Annapurna Studios, took to his Twitter handle to clear the air. He said that he has always respected women personally and professionally, and that he doesn't stand by Rao's opinion.
Amidst the uproar over his obscene remarks, Rao too tendered an unconditional apology to women saying that he did not intend to hurt their feelings.
