The BRS today observed a Gajwel Bandh to protest the attack by Congress activists on the Gajwel MLA's camp office.
Tension prevailed across the constituency as BRS cadres took to the streets in large numbers to register their protest. Party leaders and activists gathered in large numbers under the leadership of Gajwel constituency in-charge Vanteru Prathap Reddy.
Responding to the bandh call, major markets, commercial establishments and educational institutions in Gajwel town remained closed. Police deployed heavy forces across the town and set up pickets at key intersections to prevent any untoward incidents.
Movement was also affected as BRS cadres staged a sit-in protest (dharna) in front of the Gajwel-Pragnapur bus depot, and raised slogans against the State government and the police. Commuters faced severe difficulties as the protesters blocked buses from leaving the depot from the early hours.
Prathap Reddy said that targeting opposition offices was against democratic principles, and alleged a political conspiracy behind the incident. He demanded that the culprits be identified immediately and strict action taken.
