There was heated discussion on Brahmani Steels, with the TDP leading the fire, over the allotment of mines to Brahmani Steels promoted by Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, a politician facing allegations in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation case. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu claimed that the Congress government was encouraging the mining mafia to rule, and was inflicting heavy losses on the exchequer. He also said that norms were flouted while allowing the steel corporation to be set up
The industries minister Kanna Lakshminarayana claimed the TDP was obstructing development of the backward Rayalaseema district, and cried foul at Naidu's remarks, saying they were objectionable. The house had to be adjourned when TDP leaders rushed to the well of the House.
The power situation in the state also kept the AP State Legislative Assembly busy today. The government is under fire for not ensuring continuous power supply to the state, and for inconveniencing several sections of the populace including students, farmers, hospital patients, and many more.
Jaya Prakash Narayan, the Lok Satta chief, proposed metering for power. He said it was a well-known reality that the free power for villages is a gimmick played out only for votes. TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu claimed that the current government has failed and that it has taken the state back by 10 years.
