Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Thursday said that leaders of all political parties were responsible for encouraging students' suicides in the Telangana agitation.
Talking to media persons after making a presentation on the issue of bifurcation of the state before the Srikrishna Committee, he accused the leaders of making emotional statements on the Telangana issue and encouraging students to take extreme steps for the cause of Telangana.
Lagadapati appealed to the government to book cases of attempts to murder, on all leaders, including himself, who made emotive remarks on the issue of bifurcation of the state.
"The division of the state will weaken the country. Unity and national integration are need of the hour to realise the dreams of the Father Of The Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who stated that we are all Indians first," the MP pointed out.
Lagadapati said that for the development of backward areas in the state, the government can appoint a commission, which makes its recommendations. Some vested interests want to divide the state to gain mileage, he alleged.
He said that he hoped that the Srikrishna Committee would respect the sentiments of all people and take a suitable decision on the bifurcation issue.
