The Telangana BJP today again demanded that the TRS government celebrate September 17 officially as Telangana Liberation Day.
Speaking to the media after a meeting on Wednesday, BJP Telangana Liberation Committee chairman N Srivardhan Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised to celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day officially during the Telangana agitation, but was now caving in to pressure from the MIM and reneging on that commitment, hurting the self-respect of the Telangana people.
Reddy said that Karnataka and Maharashtra were celebrating September 17, but the Telangana government was indulging in vote bank politics by not celebrating it officially.
Committee convenor Ch Swamy Goud said that the BJP would mount pressure on the state government on the issue by organising seminars, and meetings of intellectuals and artistes.
The meeting was attended by senior leader Nallu Indrasena Reddy, committee joint convenors Adelli Ravinder, Gujja Satyanarayana and K Satyanarayana, and state media committee convenor V Sudhakar Sharma.
