Telangana BJP president & MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar today alleged that the TRS leaders were targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and holding protests in order to divert the attention of the people from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's remarks against the Indian constitution, by using the Telangana sentiment.
Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi along with Adilabad MP Soyam Babu Rao, former MLC Ramachandra Rao and others, Kumar claimed that PM Modi had tried to explain the mistakes committed by the Congress during the creation of of Telangana state.
He wondered why the TRS leaders were agitating on the issue when the PM had in fact targeted the Congress.
He claimed that Modi had not spoken against Telangana, and that the PM had only talked about the injustices done by the Congress from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Pointing out that the then BJP-led union government had created three new states in the country in 2000, he added that the BJP was always in favour of smaller states and of granting statehood to Telangana. He said that the party had in fact promised statehood to Telangana in its Kakinada resolution, and could not fulfil it only due to lack of majority in Parliament. He recalled that BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had extended the party's support to the creation of Telangana state in Parliament.
He claimed that it was in fact KCR who did not like the decision to create Telangana state, and that there were no separate statehood activists in KCR's cabinet, and that the cabinet had only Telangana traitors. He said that the souls of the Telangana martyrs were writhing in pain after seeing the traitors awarded cabinet positions.
He also asked KCR why the Indian constitution needed to be changed, and made it clear that the BJP would continue its agitation until the CM tendered his apologies for his "anti-Indian constitution" comments. He claimed that KCR was trying to benefit by taking up .
