Ajmera Athmaram Nayak, a State executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), today joined the Congress.
Chief Minister and TPCC president A Revanth Reddy welcomed Nayak to the party at his (Reddy's) residence by wrapping the party's shawl around him and conveyed the best wishes to him for deciding to work with the Congress.
Speaking on the occasion, Nayak said that the Congress government in Telangana was working for the welfare of the backward classes, the schedule castes and the schedule tribes, and that he was impressed by the performance of Revanth Reddy as the Chief Minister of the State.
He exuded confidence that the Congress would win a majority of the seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
BJP Tribal Morcha Asifabad Assembly in-charge Gugulothu Ravi Nayak, Minority Morcha district president Mahabub Ali, Sevalal Sena district leaders and others were present.
Nayak later paid a courtesy call on AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Das Munsi and expressed his desire to strengthen the party in the days to come.
Nayak had contested for the Asifabad Assembly constituency seat on behalf of the BJP in 2018 and 2023, but was unsuccessful both times.
